Buyer demand for businesses in the Australia logistics industry is surging. According to Morgan Business Sales, one of the biggest business brokerage firms in Australia, freight-related business listings are experiencing record levels of enquiry.
Dru Morgan, the Director of Morgan Business Sales, believes that this is on the back of a shifting market post-pandemic.
“At the very start of the pandemic, logistics businesses took a hit as everyone pressed pause to reassess. From the numbers we’re seeing though, the financial hardship didn’t last long.
As the world started moving again and everyone started shopping online, logistics businesses rode the wave back up and beyond.
This made investing in the sector a far more attractive proposition. Suddenly there’s more demand but for the short term at least, the same level of supply. The perfect situation for increased prices and therefore increased profits.”
When queried whether particular segments were experiencing more demand than others, Mr Morgan noted that it was industry wide.
“Last month we sold two logistics industry businesses and had another two under offer. Two of these were transport businesses, the third a customs broker and the fourth a freight forwarder.
Based on these transactions and the buyers we talked to in selling these listings, I feel confident in saying that there’s a greater shift going on here. Logistics businesses as a category are now recognised as good investments. Demand is up across the board as investors ‘land grab’ and add more of these assets.”
Mr Morgan believes that these market conditions make it a perfect time for owners of logistics businesses to consider selling, no matter their size.
“At the moment we have buyers looking at businesses from a $1m turnover up to $100m. Most of these buyers are segment agnostic. What a great time to be an owner of a business in the logistics industry”
